I am interested an art retreat at CoSM or a workshop with you and Alex. My first trip up to CoSM was for a lecture which I throughly enjoyed. I have been looking for a place like CoSM before even knowing about it. I wrote in journals about creating my own place with the same intentions of bridging and connecting spirituality and art and did not know that a place like that already existed. Leaving CoSM gave me such hope and fulfillment.
When I got home, I looked up your visionary workshops and saw two that I was interested in -- one a Painting Intensive and the other a more fundamental drawing based class. I've been an artist all my life and am currently studying at Studio Incamminati, School for Contemporary Realist Art in Philadelphia. The classes are so academic, which is great because I’m looking for a wholesome combination of spirt and art.
I think the workshop focusing more on fundamental drawing makes the most sense for me because I’m not quite up to par on painting skills. Yet, my drawing and draftsmanship is excellent. I was about to sign up for the drawing focused workshop when I saw that you also offer Art & Life Consultation stays at CoSM which seem a bit more relaxed and calm and more private, which for me may fit my personality better. At the same time, I could see the workshop opening up more possibilities for personal and spiritual growth in that I am somewhat introverted. I enjoy structured and controlled settings that involve deeper one on one intimate conversations. So, knowing what I just shared, what is your opinion about the choice of workshops? Would you recommend a week long intensive workshop or a consultation session with you?
Thanks so much for writing. Pleased to hear that you visited CoSM and had a good experience. We’d love to work with you on your art.
The Painting Intensive is offered each summer. Portfolios are required and that class will be open again summer 2020.
It’s a wonderful immersion for accomplished painters. Consider applying for the Painting Intensive in the future.
Each summer, we teach a 5-day Visionary Art Intensive workshop at Omega Institute, a extraordinary retreat center near CoSM. In this workshop, drawing is the primary medium and participants are welcome to try painting or may already feel comfortable painting. The class typically attracts artists at all levels of experience, from beginners to professionals and life-long practitioners. We all teach each other. At the Omega workshop we could see you start and develop drawings. The workshop asks us to use our imaginations and challenges us to articulate our imagination in 2-dimensions. How do we communicate those pictures in our head? We practice.
Here’s what we say about that workshop:
2019 Visionary Art Intensive
@ Omega Institute
with Alex Grey & Allyson Grey
Through illustrated talks, vision practices, and group interaction, we empower the process of bringing our heart’s iconography to outer form and examine the worldwide visionary art movement.
Using guided imagery, meditation, shamanic ascent, and love model chakra drawings of body and soul, we open the doors of the imagination to the theater of revelation. Utilizing basic materials such as graphite, colored pencils, pastels, and watercolors, we commit mental pictures to paper and discuss the aesthetic dimension of our mystical experiences. Learn how to draw the face and figure. Explore art as a spiritual path and art as a career, address technical concerns, and define your creative goals. Re-enter the charged vortex where we will empower each other toward breakthroughs in our artwork.

Or is it an Art Consultation or an Artist Retreat?
A single consultation can answer a lot of questions and opinions can be shared. Ideas shared with 90 minutes devoted to your art practice can offer evolutionary momentum.
If you would be more comfortable working independently in your own room with private bath, meeting with Allyson periodically to discuss your art, to jam privately about ideas and the evolution of your work, consider an extended retreat in the Artist Oasis in Grey House. Meals are served daily in the Dining Hall or The Mushroom Cafe downstairs. During your stay, you would be welcome to sign up for programs that are being held, like Drawing Together or Body & Soul Drawing Intensive. https://www.cosm.org/visit/artist-retreats/
Listen to your inner voice, Nicholas. Go quiet and envision each option and you will know where you really want to be.
What a pleasure it would be to meet you at a workshop or consultation.
In loving service,
